Cherry blossom

Under the Cherry Blossom tree

my daughter says it tears her up

to helplessly watch the wind

shatter such delicate flowers.

Petals like porcelain

fragments fill the air.

I tell her every flower

sheds its petals to grow up,

as part of nature’s cycle;

but all change is death

to a child.

She stops crying.

I get her a doll’s

pink tea-set.

We pretend to sip

Cherry tea.

One day she will

forget this happened.
