Obsessed With Pipework, Spoon edition, Issue 78 – List of the moon’s maria

That lovely girl is wasting away –
landlocked to the boy’s body
she is imprisoned by,
which will even take her song:
By breaking her voice
and stealing the dresses
she hasn’t worn yet;
knowing they won’t be hers
for that long, any day now.

She is eaten up by the way
other people occupy space;
being forced to focus
on the biological minutiae
of their incessant existence:
Jangling keys as they pass,
the sound of lips over teeth,
the demands their eyes make;
mortalities sheer unreliability

But also its relentless routines.
Nocturnal living is barely
tolerable but there’s absolute silence,
and the loneliness is hers alone:
Consuming ice cream on the moon
pared from the breast
of absent happiness;
with a collar bone
for a spoon.

  1. Thanks for that! The clavicle is a bit spoon shaped, I think, and perhaps.. An alternate ‘spare rib’… The moon’s phases also fit the full/consuming imagery.. It was written quickly, and I keep seeing different things about it – it’s great to riff with others about poetry, thanks again.. And always 👻
